Fishery Management Report

Hurston Lane Carp Pond August 2009

We had another very good turnout for this Sunday morning work party with a few new faces turning up yet again. It’s always nice to see new members at work parties especially when they are as enthusiastic as the ones that attended today. Well done to everyone who got stuck in, we removed a tremendous amount of weed from the Carp Pond and also trimmed up the vegetation around the swims. Most, if not all the swims are now fishable, although we would still like to get them even clearer. The general consensus from those that attended today was we need another work party soon and then Hurston Lane Fishery will be looking as we’d all like to see it.

We are arranging another work party for Sunday 6th September, if you have not yet attended a work party this season then now is your chance. Work parties are a great way to meet fellow members and many long lasting friendships have been forged at our work parties, there was certainly a great bunch of guys there today. Membership Secretary Mick Harmsworth was on hand to fire up the barbecue and supplied us with plenty of food at the finish, we hope to have Mick there at the next one so you won’t go hungry.

We aim to start about 8am and finish about lunchtime again, if you can only come for a couple of hours then please do so, every little helps. Hurston is a very high maintenance water because we like to keep our waters nice and natural rather than them being holes in the ground, that way they attract a lot more wildlife for the pleasure of our members. Despite the disturbance of the work party I did see a kingfisher flash past a couple of times today. If you have any useful tools such as a rake, fork, bow saw or loppers etc. then please bring them along.
