Only 9 anglers turned up on a dry day with variable light winds. This attendance was lower than normal and may have been caused by unfavourable reports from individuals who had been fishing Petworth Park. Although several tench had been caught, the bream were noticeable by their absence. The cold spring had delayed the fish spawning and it was thought that spawning was a month behind schedule. The worrying sign was the absence of small silver fish. Normally if you fish with maggot you are pestered by small roach, but many anglers fished all day with maggot and did not even get a bite from a roach. A report of 17 cormorants overwintering on the lake is not a good sign.

Mick Greenway was fishing on the first peg past the concrete slab and used a long pole to catch 3 bream weighing 11-4-0 to win the match. Mick fishing double maggot over groundbait on the long pole.

Vince Herringshaw fishing to Mick’s left caught 2 bream on the long pole along with a tench from the margins to weigh in 8-13-4 and finish second.

In third place was John Williams who caught 2 bream, on the long pole, to weigh in 8-0-4 and finish third.
