On yet another dry, warm overcast night the first leg of the Charles Tankard was fished on Cart. There was a strong wind blowing but cart is very sheltered and it had not effect on the fishing. There were lots of carp showing on the surface on Stemps as we waited for the draw and also on Cart. It was noticeable that these disappeared when I blew the whistle to start the match. It was good to see John Sheppard fishing- he caught a bream of about 3lb from peg 31 – bream of this size are a rarity on Cart with most of them skimmers. The highest rated pegs were used on Cart.

In first place fishing peg 16 was Mick Greenway. He fished paste on the pole close to the bush in front of him to take 4 carp. These along with a carp caught close in to his right weighed 18-2-0. Most of the carp in his swim seemed to be in the unfishable area to the right of his peg.

Jon Arnold was fishing peg 27 and used sweetcorn on the long pole to take 11 carp weighing 17-3-0.
