We had a good turnout for our first match on the canal this season and we decided that we would fish from Hurston towards the city. There were pleasure anglers on the first few pegs so we didn’t start until the 2nd tree. Having heard that plenty of skimmers had been coming out we expected some good weights but the fishing proved to be quite hard.

Mark (canal) Pantling picked up from where he left of last season, drawing the end of the first trees on the far bank a swim that is normally good for skimmers. Mark proceeded to do the business and put together a mixed bag of skimmers and roach for 5 – 7 – 0 to take first place.

Not a name we see in the frame very often, on the furthest peg and the first man to weigh in was John Savage and we really hoped that his 5 – 3 – 0 of mainly skimmers would be good enough but unfortunately it wasn’t to be and John took 2nd place.

John must now be thinking what might have been if he hadn’t lost those better fish

He was there at the end and had managed to resist the barmaid’s apron so we knew John Williams had a few fish, but his 3 – 15 – 0 was only good enough for 3rd place.
