We fished the Grosvenor Road section for the third leg of our canal series. We had a couple of frosts and then some heavy rain so we were not sure what it was going to be like and what it would respond to. We also found that there was a fair amount of tow on the water, which together with quite a bit of wind made presentation quite difficult. Normally one who masters the conditions is Mark (canal) Pantling but even he struggled to the degree that come the final whistle he was packed up and ready to take the scales.

In first place and catching right from the start on punched bread was Vince even though he’d had a bit of a disaster and had to make running repairs to his liquidizer before he could do his bread earlier in the morning. Vince had a good mixed bag of 6 – 2 – 0.

Mick (trout)Greenway caught steadily on the waggler over or the pole down the middle for most of the match. Whenever the boat went through it always seemed that Mick was the first to get the fish going again. A mixed bag of 5 – 4 – 0 was sufficient for 2nd place.

Unfortunately (or fortunately as I really don’t like them) I didn’t get to see John Savage’s eel, but apparently it was about 2lb and boosted John’s weight to 3 – 4 – 0 for third place.
