It is always difficult to write a match report when you are not there but the task has been passed to me. Based on the match results and comments from a couple of anglers who took part – here goes

The big news was that John Savage is going through a golden patch at the moment with some good framing results in recent matches and this culminated in him winning the first leg of the evening series on the Rother at Fittleworth. However it was mentioned that John needed a little more coaching on species identification and size estimation. Unlike most match anglers who will tell you they have a couple of pounds which turns out to be five John I am told has a tendency to over estimate the size of his fish! Enough of this I hear – let’s have the results

John fished the well known ‘Throat’ area although he was slightly downstream from the normal trotting point and fished a small feeder to the bush / tree on the far bank. John had a chub of 31⁄2 lb a roach of just over 1⁄2 lb and a few bits for a total of 4 – 8 – 0.
Rab Butler who requested a short walk and promptly drew first away dropped into the bridge swim and had a mixed bag including a small chub and some roach for 3 – 12 – 0.
Last man in the frame was Keith Hughes who is apparently still losing fish! Keith had 3 small chub for third place with 3 – 2 – 0
