Match Report

Only four of us turned up at Fittleworth for the 1st evening series match on the Rother. Perhaps the impending thunderstorms or the very exciting Italy v Republic of Ireland was responsible for the low turnout. In the event we just missed the rain although we heard thunder rumbling for a lot of the evening and saw our first flash of lightning while we were on the way back to the cars.

Steve Simmonds went to his normal peg, just over the first fence and caught 2 chub and a reasonable net of dace and roach all on the stick float fishing maggot over hemp and maggot for 8-11-0 to just win the match.

Mike Kitchener fished just below the throat, fishing to the fallen tree and had an excellent net of roach dace and chublets with a couple of gudgeon for 8 – 8 – 8, although he looked for them he could not find the bonus fish which would have undoubtedly won him the match.

Ray fished the first available swim from the bridge and had a small chub together with roach, dace and chublets.

Unfortunately there are no pictures, in the first field we were too intent on stopping the cattle licking our gear to pieces! While further back towards the bridge it was evident that the rain was imminent so we did not hang around.

Next week we will be at Shopham and we would welcome any other members who come along.
