We thought we were going to have an odd number and Ray H has offered to drop out of the pairs draw when John W rolled up just as the first hand was diving into the draw bag. So start again with John added to the list.

Vince was drawn about halfway along on the river bank and was drawn with Steve S who was almost opposite him on the other side of the pond. Vince found the bits few and far between so concentrated on fishing to the island for the carp. He found that he had to really close before he got a bite and was fishing with his float almost under the bag. However he did manage to get 5 very manageable sized carp out for 13 – 8 – 0 which together with just over a lb of bits totaled 14 – 9 – 4 for first place.

Ray H was toward the bottom end of the island facing the river. Ray elected to fish to the island and had two good carp early on but then his swim died on him and unfortunately Ray did not see another fish. However his 2 carp weighed in at 10 – 15 – 0 which was good enough for 2nd place.

As mentioned above Steve S was just about opposite Vince and decided to fish two lines; down the middle on the whip and to the island on the pole. After a steady run of small fish on the whip line all went quiet and the inevitable happened – along came a carp down the middle, it was on but not for long! A swap over to the island produced a carp of just over 4lb but that was the only one. Back down the middle a few more roach were caught before yet another carp was briefly on. Steve managed to get just under 2lb of bit which together with his carp came to 6 – 2 – 0 for 3rd place.

With a total weight 20 – 11 – 4 Vince and Steve won the pairs tankard, their nearest rival were Ray and Keith with just under 14lb between them.
