This match was the 1st leg of the W Sampson Trophy and was held on the Hurston Match Pond. There had been low temperatures, although no frost, in the week prior to the match so the 8 anglers expected conditions to be hard. This turned out to be the case on another grey day with intermittent drizzle. The anglers were split equally between the road and river banks of the lake and the few fish caught were all captured from the river side pegs.
Keith Hughes was fishing on Peg 5 and caught 3 carp on the long pole. One carp was caught close to the island on maggot whilst the other two were caught in the margins on paste. The carp weighed 7-5-8 giving Keith a winning weight.
On peg 1 was second placed Steve Simmonds who caught 2 carp on a feeder along with 1 roach caught on the whip. These weighed 5-9-8
Vince Herringshaw, on Peg 2 had several bites, on the pole, from the reeds to the left of his swim and managed to get one carp out. This weighed 2-6-0 to give Vince third place.
