This was the second match for the W Sampson trophy and was fished on another grey day with odd light rain and the occasional hint of sun. The previous week was milder, than the week before the previous round, so hopes were reasonably high. In the previous match only the anglers on the riverside pegs caught so all the anglers were pegged along this side in attempt to offer the best chances. However the match proved to be very hard with only two fish caught.
In first place was Vince Herringshaw fishing Peg 5 who had a carp within the first half hour. Vince was dobbing bread punch along the margins and the carp weighed 3-7-0.
Nigel Wheatley was fishing his first match and was on Peg 1 and caught a 0-3-0 perch on maggot fished on the waggler.
Overall the winner of W Sampson Trophy was Vince who was the only angler to weigh in in both legs.
