Match Report

This match was scheduled to be fished on the River Rother at Fittleworth but due to the amount of rain that we have had lately causing the river to be very coloured and bombing through it was decided to move it to Stemps Wood and fish on Cart Pond.

Steve Jeffery drew peg 20 and after feeding a line at 3 metres, he had only one bite in the first half hour resulting in a small roach. A switch to the island at 14.5 metres, where a swim had been fed earlier with 4mm pellet and another with groundbait and sweetcorn, resulted in a nice roach of approx 6 oz’s coming on the first put in and then they kept coming until the inevitable happened and a small carp put in an appearance. The island swims continued to produce quality roach and three more carp for the rest of the match and this was enough for first place.

Second was Rab Butler fishing in fancied peg 27. Rab fished between the lilypad and the reeds on the island at 14 metres and caught quality roach, one decent skimmer and six small carp. Rab did lose two more carp that completely smahed his rig on both occasions.

Third was Vince Herringshaw on peg 22, a peg that he has fished a few times before and immediately set up his trusty whip where he caught small roach with occasional quality fish making an appearance. Vince did catch one carp, albeit one of about 2oz’s near the end of the match, possibly a good sign for the future of the pond.

The second leg of the W Sampson is scheduled for Fittleworth again next Wednesday so please check the website in case the river is still out of sorts.
