Fishery Management Report
Another good turnout for this, our last formal work party at Hurston for this year saw a lot of what are now familiar faces at Hurston Work Parties together with a couple of new ones as well. A good friendly bunch as usual who went about the work very enthusiastically. Even more weed was removed from both the Tench Pond and the Carp Pond and the banks and swims were also tied up. In Micks absence our Secretary Steve stood in and supplied us with refreshments in the shape of hot dogs, burgers and bacon butties, which were much appreciated by everyone.
Although the water in the Match Pond is holding up nicely, the other two ponds desperately need some rain as do most of the stillwaters and rivers in the southern counties. We did some clearing of the run offs between the ponds so when the rain does come they should fill up quickly. Once the levels build back up then most of the surface duck weed which has been a bit of a problem on the Tench Pond in the last couple of weeks will be washed out.
A big thank you to all who attended today and special thanks to those that attended often, as you will now appreciate, it does take team effort to keep on top of things on our waters, it doesn’t happen without your help. That’s not the end of our work parties though, they will resume in the new year so keep an eye out for the dates and please support us if you are able. Also remember a dedicated few will still be keeping on top of the general maintenance for us whilst the rest of us are fishing, without your help at work parties their task would be impossible.
