Fittleworth

River Rother – Fittleworth

This double bank stretch of river contains a very good head of Chub to over 5lb along with Dace, Roach, Grayling, Perch, Pike, Gudgeon and Barbel. There have been several double figure Barbel reported in recent seasons along with smaller ones and the odd Carp. It is also capable of turning up a few surprises with a 2lb Roach, 3lb Perch and some good Bream to over 6lb reported in recent seasons. Like our other stretches of the Rother it also enjoys a very good run of Sea Trout most years. Any Member wishing to fish for these must have the appropriate Licence.

The swims near the bridge hold some good fish

This stretch probably contains a bigger head of fish as far as numbers go than our other stretches of the Rother and is therefore favoured by our match anglers who believe most swims on this stretch are capable of holding that winning bag. fittleworth_1

There are plenty of deeper swims downstream

Look for the deeper swims with plenty of bankside cover like the picture above for the specimen fish. Trotting with a stick or Avon type float can account for some good bags of Chub and Dace, particularly in the Autumn and Winter when there is a bit of colour in the water.

Be prepared for anything from a gudgeon to a double figure barbel when fishing this stretch!
