News Report
The Chairman welcomed the 40 members of the Club who attended the 2012 AGM at The Black Horse Climping. He told the members that the Club had faced some challenges over the last year with the loss of The Granary and fish losses at Hurston Lane. There was little that could be done with regard to Granary but our fishery management and bailiff team tackled the problems at Hurston and were successful in minimising losses. On the plus side the club have gained a new stretch of the Arun at Stopham Bridge.
The Membership Secretary reported a record year for 2011/12 closing the year with 787 members. 2012/13 membership is tracking significantly lower and although we are still getting half year memberships we are likely to close down on the previous season. The very poor weather over the summer months is considered to be a very significant factor in the lower membership. The Membership Secretary thanked all the outlets who had sold membership on behalf of the club; Aldwick Angling, Havant Angling, Tropikoi, Tidal Angling and of course Arun Angling
The Treasurer presented the accounts for the 2011/12 season and these were formally adopted. The Treasurer also showed his prediction of the financial situation by the end of this year which shows the club breaking even over the year. The Treasurer proposed that subscriptions should be raised by £2 to £86 for full adult members with other categories being adjusted pro-rata for the 2013/14 season. A minor amendment to the fee structure was proposed. To try to encourage younger anglers it was proposed that the age limit of the Juvenile category (free membership) be increased from under 11 to under 13 this amendment was carried and the Treasurer’s proposal for the new subscription levels with the amendment was ratified.
The Secretary paid tribute to the work of Roger Poole as Press Officer and bailiff for the club as well as for his wider role in local angling as a trustee of The ARRT.
The Fishery Manager said that there was still plenty of work to be done at Hurston and some major works would be required in Cart Pond at Walberton over the next year. A further stocking of quality tench are due to arrive at Hurston during the first week of December.
The Match Secretary reported a successful match season with highlights of good bream weights from Petworth Park and carp in matches from the lower pond at Bethwins. He thanked all that had helped during his first season at the helm.
