Third Time Unlucky

On Sunday 17 February 2013 a dozen anglers gathered in the car park at Coultershaw, hoping for the third time this season, that at least one of them would catch a barbel and so walk away with the Chris Humphry Memorial Trophy. It was not to be. Once again the elusive Rother barbel refused to co-operate. A few fish were caught, however, so some anglers did experience a bend in the rod. Two sea trout of about two and a half pounds were caught (by Mike Kitchenor and Daniel Bolton), and Peter Vale landed a chub of 4 lb 12 oz. However, as this was a barbel fish-in, the cup remains with Dave Chambers for another year.

Once again anglers gave generously in memory of Chris, and a total of £210 was raised, which included £25 from Lynnette Humphry and £80 from Christophe Pelhate who donated his Drennan Cup winnings, awarded for his recent PB. The money raised from the earlier fish-ins has been used to provide an oak seat which is being installed at our own venue at Hurston Lane, when weather improves. Additional money raised will be used to benefit junior anglers.

Anglers who attended were as follows: Steve Batton, Daniel Bolton, Bob Carmel, Dave Chambers, Nigel Chapman, Martin Cornish, Nelson Keet, Mike Kitchener, Mick Mills, Ben Sharman, Peter Vale Steve Warner and Ray Huskisson.

A reminder that next season’s Chris Humphry Barbel Fish-in will be held at Coultershaw on Sunday 14 July 2013.
