Match Report

We had a brilliant turnout with 17 anglers making the walk down to the lake at Petworth Park for the first match of the season. There was a mix of regulars, one or two old faces who we’ve not seen for quite a while and refreshingly some new faces as well. Unfortunately the water proved to be a bit fickle with only Vince posting a good weight but Keith had the fish of the day with a 5lb 3oz tench. Roy Baker managed to get into the silver fish and managed probably three times as many fish as anyone else. He did have one hybrid of getting on towards 2lb.

Vince was the only angler to produce a typical Petworth weight, he was pegged close to the concrete block which is always one of the favoured areas as this is the deeper water where the bream hang out. Sure enough Vince had 6 good bream for 24 – 14 – 0 which was easily enough for 1st place.

Keith was behind the first island and as mentioned had a 5lb 3oz tench which is a personal best and a very respectable fish. Unfortunately there was not a lot to go with it but his 7 – 15 – 0 was good enough to give him 2nd place. Newcomer Rob Johnson was in peg 1 just a you come to the lake and he had a mixed bag of 6 – 3 – 0 to just get 3rd place.

Most of the other managed to put a couple of pounds of fish in the net but we were hoping for a few more decent weights.
