Match Report
The matchmen returned to Stemps again for the Kingsbury Tankard on yet another grey day, although this time we had intermittent heavy rain and even hail. The wind was very strong and gusty and keep changing direction making it difficult to keep umbrellas under control. In fact three of the anglers fished without umbrellas either because their umbrella had turned inside out or they could not keep them in place. The anglers were spread around the lake with all the best pegs being used. During the match it was interesting that the skimmers started to feed first and when they stopped feeding, the roach switched on.
In first place was Steve Simmonds, who is becoming well known as carp angler, fishing the pellet cone using maggots to catch 6 carp from Peg 1. These weighed 23-4-6.
Keith Hughes, on Peg 15, caught one 5lb carp plus silverfish, on the pole, to weigh in 8-2-12 to take second place.
Vince Herringshaw, on Peg 13, caught a carp on the feeder plus 5lb of roach and skimmers on the long pole to weigh in 7-3-8.
