Match Report
This was the first match in the Kirkby Bott Series on the River Arun at Watersfield. It was fished on another warm and sunny day but this had encouraged the grass to grow making pulling a trolley through it difficult. There was also a reasonable amount of gardening to be done to access the water in some swims. Initially it was thought that we would be able to use the island peg close to the upstream fence. However the river had cut back behind the island making it unsafe. Hence a new peg was cut out upstream of the old number 1 but downstream of the island.
The peg upstream of the Mint Swim was very overgrown and Ray who had drawn it moved to the peg below the outlet from the stream. The river was flowing upstream whilst we were setting up and there was minimal slack water before the tide started going out. This gave some problems with keepnets as the tide dropped.
In first place was Vince Herringshaw who was fishing the old peg number 1. He used a bolo float on the pole to catch 6-11-8. This consisted of dace, roach and a couple of skimmer bream.
Glen Riley was fishing the next peg downstream just before the bush and used a mixture of tactics to catch 5-10-0 of silverfish.
Steve Simmonds was fishing in the new peg cut out above where Vince was fishing and used rod and line techniques to catch 5-1-4 of silverfish.
