I decided to use the Hunston end of the canal coming back towards the city for this match as we had heard reports that this section had been fishing well. In retrospect it would possibly have been better to have fished a session closer to Chichester. Although the fish were around they seemed a little reluctant to really get their heads down and this couples with a massive number of leaves of the water meant that weights were significantly down from what we expected.

We did have a new angler to our matches Glenn Riley who regularly fishes Pulborough matches and is a member of both clubs decided to give a Petworth and Bognor match a go. Good to see you Glenn and we hope that we might tempt you to come along to a few more of our matches

Steve S won the match with a mixed bag totaling 3 – 12 – 0 of mainly small skimmers and roach with a few gudgeon for good measure. Fishing the drop off of the inside shelf most of the fish were caught on pinkie over a small amount of groundbait and hemp.

Rab was second fishing mainly down the middle using similar bait and feed tactics with 2 – 12 – 8

Keith was third again tending to fish down the middle with pinkie over chopped worm and a small amount of groundbait, just behind Rab with 2 – 11 – 0.

How well did our newcomer do – well – he was a little way down the field, struggling to come to terms with a venue he hasn’t fished for about 20 years. But he did find the roach in the last hour or so and if he had managed that catch rate throughout the match then Glenn would certainly have been challenging for the honours.
