Match Report
We took our first look of the season at the Rother and Fittleworth was the venue for the first of our evening river series. The river was low and slow which bearing in mind the lack of rain over the last few weeks is hardly surprising.
We don’t bother pegging for these matches and we have a walk off instead, the person that draws no. 1 has the first choice of peg, no. 2 second etc. John Shepperd came up with no. 1 and walked the whole 5 yards to the bridge swim, which everyone fancied. John proceeded to do what was expected and to catch a fish virtually every run through and although there was nothing big he was occupied all match for 3 – 1 – 0 which was good enough for 1st place.
John Savage found the only proper chub of the evening which he caught on the maggot feeder fishing a couple of trees down from the Throat swim. John also had a couple of bits for a total of 2 – 14 – 0 which was good enough for 2nd place.
In 3rd place from the Throat swim was Ray Huskisson. This swim does not seem to produce as it used to, you could normally expect to latch onto at least one chub in an evening session together with a few bits and pieces. Ray had a couple of very small bits but most of his weight was an eel that weighed in at 1 – 2 – 0 and with his bits that gave him 1 – 3 – 0.
We move onto Shopham next Wednesday when the first choice will be whether to go up or down!
