Match Report
There was a late rush of attendees for the President’s Cup match at Hurston. Rab. Keith and I were beginning to think that it would only be us three and then another seven turned up. Among them a couple of new recruits took their first look at the water today, we hope to see them coming to more matches in the future.
So having just pegged the stream side to start with we hurriedly put some pegs on the other side. We seem to have got it somewhere near right as although the top weight came from the bank side the next three came from the stream side.
We were all quite surprised that it was virtually impossible to find any of the roach and rudd, but the small perch showed again, however to get in the weights you needed to have carp.
Vince was about halfway along the high bank side in the bay swim and had carp quite early on. The best one weighing between 6lb and 7 lb which with 2 others gave him a total of 14 – 4 – 0 for first place.
Denis Hurley drew the reeds on the stream side and he had 2 carp for 10 – 8 – 0 one of which was around 7 lb, this was good enough for second place.
Keith was in the far end peg on the stream side and lost 4 carp but did get 3 out, Keith was the only one to have any significant number of bits as well, although they did not really contribute that much to the weight and Keith weighed in 9 – 13 – 0 for third.
There were another couple of carp caught with a couple of anglers having one apiece and finally just for the record I didn’t swim this week. Don’t forget that we will be at Walberton on Cart Pond on the 20th for the 2nd leg of the Pole only
