Match Report
With the numbers that turned out we thought we might have to spill over onto Stemps Pond but we just managed to get everyone onto Cart. Following the draw the biggest moans were heard from Ray Huskisson who had drawn peg 16 a peg that most of us would have run to. John Williams didn’t manage to stay the course despite having probably the best roach of the day at around 1lb. The smell of the barmaids apron got to him at about half past one and he was off.
Back to Ray who once the whistle went proceeded to catch 4 carp in the first couple of hours. He was being coached by Nelson our Fishery Manager and acknowledged Walberton guru. It was strange that after Nelson had gone Ray lost two further carp and only managed to increase his tally by one small silver fish, but his 8 – 15 – 8 was easily good enough for 1st place.
Keith Hughes was on another favoured pegĀ peg 27 and caught steadily all day long, he did lose a good carp but got two small one out. A total of 5 – 11 – 12 gave him 2nd place.
We were then down to the battle of the anglers with one carp and Glen Riley just pipped Steve Speller with his 2 – 15 – 0 of one small carp and bits.
The rain we have had over the last week has helped to bring the water level up but it still has a way to go. I think the cold water meant that the fishing was not quite as good as we would have hoped but nevertheless a good day was had by all.
This was our last club match before Christmas and the matchmen departed the carpark to a chorus of Happy Christmas’s which we would like to extend to all the other club members.
