Ten anglers (frankly more than we were expecting) braved the quite horrendous conditions on the Arun at Watersfield and with driving rain one or two discovered some failing in their waterproofs as it was not possible to use a brolley. Vince felt that he would have been drier if he had jumped in! The river was quite interesting as well, the water was coloured and only just in the banks and with a very strong predominately upstream wind the water level held up to the degree that during the match it only dropped about 6 inches. Normally we would have expected a drop of more like 6 feet!

With the water coloured like this we were to a degree expecting them and they did oblige – eels were by far the most prolific fish but we also saw a few bream and a roach which was just shy of 2lb. Unfortunately because of the conditions we didn’t get the camera out, it would have been nice to have had a picture of that roach!

Steve Speller was pegged just above the reeds and he was the man with the bream and big roach and his weight of 10 – 7 – 0 was comfortably enough to win the day.

Just above Steve was Dick Shrubb and he had a bream and a few bits for 5 – 3 – 0 and 2nd place

3rd was Glen Riley with mainly eels for 2 – 11 – 0.
