River Arun – Stopham Bridge
This 1.5km stretch of the west bank of the upper Arun directly above Stopham Bridge near Pulborough has the potential for some very good bags of Roach, Chub and Bream, especially later in the season. This stretch is also known to hold some very large Carp and Pike (20lbs+ fish). Tench and Barbel are also a distinct possibility and fly fishing is permitted in season.
As with all our waters members are kindly asked to log reports of any catches so we can monitor the true potential of this water.
Because of the restrictions on bankside management due to it’s SSSI status this stretch of river will be suited to our more able bodied members. A degree of caution is advised to all members, travel light and be sure to use the designated footbridges over the drainage channels.
Although the river upstream of the Bridge at Stopham is still tidal it is not as fast flowing as the lower stretches of the Arun. As with all tidal river fishing and river fishing in general members should use their common sense and choose a position to fish in that will not compromise their safety.
Although it won’t suit everybody we believe those members who prefer a more natural environment for their fishing will appreciate this new acquisition to our portfolio of waters.
There are a few simple rules.
- Fishing is restricted from dawn to dusk.
- No alterations are permitted to the bankside or surrounding environment.
- Strictly no fires.
- No dogs or animals permitted.
- Take ALL litter and discarded tackle home with you.
The small car park has a club combination padlock fitted on the main gate, when the car park is full, park carefully on the adjacent verge. On no account must the access gate be blocked preventing estate workers entering the site.
