About Our Club

Thank you for your interest in PETWORTH AND BOGNOR ANGLING CLUB.

Our Club was formed in early 2007 by the amalgamation of two of the most successful Freshwater Angling Clubs in West Sussex, the former Petworth Angling Club and the former Bognor Regis & District Freshwater Angling Club. Both clubs had a long history of providing quality angling to their members stretching back to the early part of the last century.

Both had also been dedicated to the traditional aspects and values of coarse angling, and despite the rise of commercial fisheries which we recognise as one of the ways in which newcomers may become attracted to the sport, we are increasingly finding that, for many, our more traditional types of coarse fishing represents a more varied and rewarding challenge. This means that ‘instant’ results are less likely and good catches on some of our waters require a certain amount of patience and skill.

That’s not to say you won’t ‘bag up’ on some of our waters, with some expertise and a degree of luck, a trip to the River Arun could see you net a ton of bream and a ton of quality mixed fish is not unheard of from Petworth Park Lake these days.

Typically our members regard enjoyment of the beautiful countryside of West Sussex as an essential ingredient of their fishing, whether it be the bird or animal life, the trees and wild flowers, the ever changing skies or simply the pleasure of being close to nature.

Our rivers, lakes and ponds provide the widest range of sport for most species including Barbel, Pike, Carp, Tench, Chub, Bream, Roach, Rudd, Dace, Grayling, Gudgeon, Eel, Sea Trout and Brown Trout. Through our Exchange Ticket Scheme we are able to offer well in excess of 20 waters to our members. In the last couple of years our waters have yielded some impressive catches, some of the highlights were;

  • Pike exceeding 20lbs from the River Arun
  • Barbel to 21lbs 2oz from the River Rother
  • Large bags of Bream from the River Arun
  • Roach to 2lbs 14oz from the River Arun
  • Chub to 6lbs plus from the River Rother
  • Barbel to 18lbs plus from the River Arun
  • Carp exceeding 30lbs from the River Arun
  • Pike to 25lb from Petworth Park
  • Mixed bags of Tench, Bream and Crucians from Petworth Park

With the welfare of our stocks and the enjoyment of our Members in mind we constantly monitor our Membership to protect our waters from over fishing. It is anticipated that we will acquire additional waters in the near future.
