Club Treasurer Martin Cornish braved 50mph winds at the tail end of the river season in pursuit of his favourite quarry, Rother barbel.

The season could not have ended better because Martin was rewarded with a new PB fish of 15lb 11oz.

How’s this for your very first barbel?

The 13lb 12oz Rother specimen was landed after Ray Andrews received some expert advice on swim choice and tactics from club bailiff Nelson Keet.

Brian Hooper had a memorable night session on our stretch of the Arun at Watersfield where he bagged a brace of double figure barbel. Brian is pictured with the largest of the two barbel at 15lb 6oz, the other one weighed 10lb 3oz.
To top the session off Brian also managed one of the big roach the Arun is famous for.

Doubling his previous best the specimen took a 12mm boilie fished in conjuction with a groundbait feeder. The fish was super healthy, and bolted back into the depths when Brian released it.

Having only succeeded in catching a sea trout during a recent session fishing for Chub at Shopham Ian Mintram had quite a surprise when he hooked into this superb 15lb Barbel. The specimen put up a terrific fight on Ian’s chub gear.

This was a second PB from club waters for Ian having previously caught a PB Bream from the Arun earlier in the season.

Whilst fishing with his Dad Daniel on one of our stretches of the Rother young Max Winslade hooked and landed this superbly marked Trout.

Gordon Reay has had some memorable catches at Petworth Park this Summer with bags to 45lb plus that contained Bream to 5.5lb and Tench to 4.5lb.

None pleased him more though than when he landed this PB Crucian Carp of 2lb 15oz

Apart from Crucian Carp being present in the lake Gordon has witnessed several Common Carp to 15.5lb landed there too.

Enthused by the July monthly report indicating there were some big roach in the Arun being caught at Watersfield Ian Mintram decided to fish for them.

Although Ian failed to connect with any of the bigger roach he did manage to net this PB bream of 7lb 3oz.
