Although there are numerous small Rudd in The Granary which is why we’ve introduced some Perch to control the numbers there are also a few bigger ones too.

A delighted looking young Seth Oglethorpe is pictured with one of the better ones caught on a recent visit to the venue.

Chris Hayes banked this new PB Barbel of 12lb 1oz on his latest visit to the River Rother.

Chris used a very light leger weight combined with a longer than usual hook length to trick the specimen into picking up his Halibut pellet hookbait.

Chris reckons for it’s weight it was the hardest fighting fish he has ever hooked.

A joint effort resulted in this fine Common Carp for Ewan and Finley Hayes.

The boys were on their first visit to Hurston Lane Fishery with dad Chris. The fish was landed using a whip, no mean feat for such young anglers, they can’t wait now to go back

July 2016

On his latest visit to the Rother Stephen Gray used trotting tactics to catch Roach, Dace, Gudgeon Perch, Minnows, Chublets and a Chub of about a 1lb.

Although Stephen enjoys trotting he also likes to put out a second rod, a light Chub rod, on this occasion he managed to hook and land a decent Barbel of 8lb 3oz.

July 2016

Stephen also had this 8lb 8oz Common that nearly pulled his rod in such was the ferocity of the take whilst he was concentrating on trotting.

Apart from the Barbel and Carp Stephen also had a Jack Pike too on his second rod.

October 2015

Young Jack Marwood got his winter piking campaign off to a good start with this 6lb 1oz Pike caught from the Coultershaw stretch of the River Rother.

Jack lost a much bigger specimen from the same swim about an hour before.

July 2015

Brian Hooper was delighted to capture this estimated double figure PB Rother Barbel on a boilie, after resting the swim he had baited up previously with hemp, 6mm pellets and a few boilies.

Brian described the fight as short, but very spirited, with his 1.5lb test curve rod bent double the whole time.

December 2014

Fishery Officer Mike Kitchener and son Ollie were in Festive mood when they fished the Middle Pond at Hurston Lane Fishery recently.

Using waggler tactics with maggot as hookbait they both caught carp and as seems to be the norm these days it was young Ollie who had the best fish of the day, the one pictured at 8lb 1oz.

November 2014

Ian Duffy is having a blinding first season on club waters. Having caught a PB Barbel of 14lb plus only a matter of a few weeks ago he has smashed that again. This time with a new club record fish of 18lb 9oz.

Ian informed us that the fish put up an incredible fight and he was absolutely staggered by the size and weight of the fish when netted and witnessed by a fellow member.

November 2014

Not wishing to be outdone by his brother Ian (see below) Adam Duffy set out to land one of our specimen Rother Barbel.

Adam achieved his goal in style with this superb pristine Barbel of 13lb 6oz, which like his brothers is a new personal best for the species.
