News Report
Rother regular Peter Foster has at last broken his Barbel PB and despite fishing such illustrious waters as the Hampshire Avon and the Dorset Stour he has done it again with a superb Rother fish of 14lb 3oz. His previous PB of 12lb 12oz caught in January 2004 was a new record for the Rother at the time. Although Peter has come tantalisingly close to beating his own PB several times with Barbel from the Rother his new PB comes almost a year to the day since Club Vice Chairman Martin Eyres set a new Rother Barbel record with a fish of 15lb 3oz.
After hooking the fish Peter describes the ensuing tussle he had as ‘one of the hardest I’ve ever had’. He was extemely relieved to get it into the net, especially as the fish was too long for the one he was using, unfortunately he’d ripped his normal huge net a few days earlier on some brambles. Peter has fished the Rother for a number of years now and seen the fish put on a phenomenal amount of weight and says he wouldn’t be surprised to see a sixteen pounder landed before too long, and we in the club wouldn’t be surprised if it was Peter who caught it! Congratulations on your latest capture Peter.
The current River Rother Barbel record of 15lb 3oz was caught in February 2007.
