Almost A Record

Peter Foster must have thought he had broken the lake record for a Crucian Carp when he slipped the net under this 3lb 11oz bronze beauty during a Tench fishing session at Petworth Park Lake the other day.

On closer examination Peter realised it wasn’t a true Crucian and sent these pictures in to our Fishery Management Team who confirmed that it was either a Brown Goldfish or a Crucian/Goldfish Hybrid. However, Peter who is far more used to being photographed with a Barbel from the Rother, was far from disappointed as the fish gave a very good account of itself on light float tackle and was in excellent condition.

With genuine Crucians in the lake to 2lb 14oz recorded it is anticipated one over the magical 3lb mark will make an appearance this season. If you are fortunate enough to land a specimen Crucian from Petworth Park Lake and wish to have it recorded please send a photo for verification purposes to one of the Officers on the Contact page.
