The weather again has influenced fishing this year so far with the norm being low overnight temperatures coupled with odd days of heavy rain. This has notably affected the fishing at Hurston Match Pond and this was the case with the first leg of M Sampson Trophy. The morning of the match was dry and the temperature low and the 8 anglers who turned up knew it was going to be hard. The match was fished in dry condition which at least was a blessing.

In first place, fishing Peg 13, was Vince Herringshaw who caught 4 bream weighing 12-5-12. These were caught on the long pole using pinkies/maggot over groundbait. He was the only one to find any number of bream also losing several others.

Keith Hughes, on Peg 2, caught 1 bream on the long pole and also lost a carp. He weighed in 2-13-0 to take second place.

In third place with a single perch, weighing a nominal 0-0-4 was Dave Herbert on Peg 7.
