Despite a somewhat disappointing turnout for this match those that did attend enjoyed a very pleasant few hours fishing in the tranquil surroundings of Hurston Lane Fishery followed by a superb BBQ courtesy of our own Masterchef, Club and Match Secretary Steve Simmonds.

It was decided to include all three ponds in this walk off match and the match itself couldn’t have been much closer with only six ounces separating the top three at the final whistle.

Keith Hughes opted for the Match Pond and had a mixed bag of reasonable sized fish which included Tench, Roach, Rudd and Perch. Unfortunately the few Carp he hooked proved too powerful for his pole rigs and all were lost, but his mixed bag of 9lb 7oz was just enough to lift the trophy.
Incidentally John Williams also opted for the Match Pond and despite stepping up to a number eighteen elastic he also suffered even more lost Carp than Keith but didn’t have as many smaller fish to contend for the top positions .

Second and third places came from the Tench Pond where both Vince Herringshaw and Steve Simmonds had very similar bags of small Tench together with a few Rudd and small Crucians. Vince had 9lb 4oz and only 3oz behind was Steve who had he not spent time lighting the BBQ may well have done enough to win the Match himself.

Lighting the BBQ early may have cost Steve the match but it was very much appreciated by those that tucked into the fare afterwards. Well done Steve and thanks from all that attended.

Just one or two more would have been enough for third placed Steve Simmonds

After seeing this little lot I’m sure we’ll get a few more to next seasons BBQ
