Match Report
Last year we had ideal weather conditions for Petworth Park – overcast with wind blowing onto the road bank. For the first leg of this Caine Cup we had very sunny conditions with little or no wind. There was very little signs of fish activity for the anglers who turned up. Anglers were pegged either end of the island with the rest along the roadside bank. Fishing was very slow with few small fish being caught.
In first place was John Ritter who was fishing the swim past the last bush and used a feeder to catch 2 bream weighing 6-14-8. These were caught on red maggots with one being caught in the first half hour and the other within the first two hours.
Second place was taken by Phil Tubb, on one of his occasional matches with us, who was fishing the left end of the island. In the last two hours he caught 2 bream and a perch on the feeder. These weighed 5-5-0.
Jon Arnold took third place fishing on the peg past the tall tree on the roadside. He caught a single bream on the feeder weighing 4-4-0.
The only other angler to catch a bream was Vince Herringshaw who was fishing at the right end of the island. He lost two other bream to deny him a place in the top three.
