Match Report
Our first match of the season saw 11 anglers at the draw and then just as the draw had been completed newcomer Mark Pantling appeared over the hill. It was decided to tag a peg onto the end and give that to the latecomer possibly to everyone’s (apart from Mark’s) regret by the time the whistle went for the end of the match.
The weather was sunny and hot but with a breeze blowing off the dam wall across the bottom islands and in fact pretty much into the face of the man (our latecomer) on the last peg.
The fish obviously followed the wind as Mark put together a mixed net of bream tench and bits for a total weight of 30 – 14 – 0 to win the match convincingly.
In second place was Petworth park regular Roger Weetman who caught mainly tench and crucian carp for exactly 20lb.
Third place went to relative newcomer Glen Riley, Glen was in one of the normally favoured swims on the roadside and caught bream and tench for his 16 – 5 – 0.
There was one decent weight after Glen but then we were down to 2 – 3lb per man.
