Match Report
We were greeted by rain and a strong wind blowing onto the roadside bank for the second leg of the Caine Cup. The strong wind, which changed direction during the match meant that most anglers fished the feeder. Several anglers fished the pole as the wind strength was variable but with some strong gusts forcing use of shorter pole lengths. The wind however did drop off for the final couple of hours of the match. It had also rained overnight and although the fish were not seen spawning, hopes were not high for big weights. The majority of the match was fished in the rain with one particular heavy shower about 2pm – not the day for me to have a major umbrella malfunction. The rain did stop for the last hour and the day brightened up considerably with sunshine when I got home to Worthing.
Twelve anglers turned up and the majority were pegged along the roadside bank with two behind the island – interestingly Keith drew the same peg as he had for the last match but not with the same success, although he did have a nice tench and crucian. The peg on the north bank was omitted as this caused conflict with the first peg on the road bank. More bream were caught in this match and the overall weight was slightly higher so hopefully the final leg in two weeks time will see the normal Petworth Park weights. John Williams lasted an hour longer, than the previous week before the barmaid called and did catch a bream this week.
Mike Kitchener (below) continued his winning run finding 3 bream on the feeder (maggot bait) to weigh in 11 – 14 – 4. Kitch was fishing two pegs to the right of the concrete block.
In second place was Ray Huskisson who was fishing next to Kitch and used the same tactics to catch 3 slightly smaller bream to weigh in 9 – 12 – 4
Third place was taken by another 3 bream catch, this time by John Ritter, weighing 9 – 4 – 4 caught using maggot on the feeder. John was fishing to the left of the big tree on the roadside bank.
After two legs of the Caine Cup Keith Hughes is in the lead with 17 points followed by Kitch on 15 points.
After 4 matches Kitch is leading in the Clubman (35 points), Matchman (178 points) and Weight ( 36-13-0) competitions from Keith with 30 points, 154 points and 32-5-0 respectively.
