On yet another dry and sunny day 14 anglers, including 2 guests from Stedham AC turned up to fish in the 1st leg of the Daniel Rose Bowl. However the wind grew in strength during the day and this made presentation difficult particularly for the two anglers fishing behind the island. The call of the barmaid’s apron was too much for John and Chris and they both left around 1 o’clock. John was fishing next to Kevin, who won the match, and said he had about twelve pound of fish when he left – this would have been enough to put him in the frame.
The match saw bream, skimmers, roach, tench and for the first time this season, crucian carp, both of which were two pound plus.Kevin Leighfield, a noted Petworth Park expert, was fishing two pegs to the left of the slab and easily won the match. He caught 11 bream and a superb crucian carp of 2-3-0 to weigh in 33-0-12 using a groundbait feeder and dead maggots as bait.
In second place was one of the Stedham AC guests, Mick Weekes. He used the feeder to catch 5 bream plus a a crucian carp of 2-6-0, caught on the pole to weigh in 20-7-8.
Vince Herringshaw was fishing behind the island and caught 3 tench and bits on the pole to weigh in 11-6-8 and take in third place.
