Match Report
Firstly apologies for not getting this report up earlier but I have had a lot going on. We were expecting a decent turnout for this match at the popular Walberton venue but with horrendous weather conditions the number of attendees was very low.
We did have a brief re-appearance of Steve Jeffery however the weather and conditions (plus the fact that he had only flown back into the country the night before) got the better of him and he made an early retirement.
As the numbers were low we decided to put the whole match onto Cart Pond rather than split across both Stemps and Cart. We will fish the 2nd leg just on Stemps unless we get a massive influx in which case the anglers who fished the first leg will definitely fish on Stemps and we will play it by ear for the rest.
Vince was drawn on the fancied peg 24 on the point of the island and fishing the pole hard to the island put together a mixed bag of small carp, skimmers and roach for a match winning total of 15 – 15 – 0 which was way ahead of anyone else.
Rab drew peg 27 first over the dam round the back of the pond and certainly fancied his chances, however he found that his 14 metres of pole was just not enough to get close enough to the island which is generally the place to be. He tried using a long line to get over the back but this proved unreliable. The alternative was to fish the near edge of the lilies and Rab put together a mixed bag for 5 – 8 – 0 to just make second place.
In third place was Steve S who drew peg 21 on the Stemps side. The wind meant that getting hard to the island on the pole was very hard so Steve elected to fish just on the inside of the middle. Starting on caster and tares over hemp produced a few decent roach but these soon dried up. A small amount of groundbait brought some skimmers later on and Steve ended up with 5 – 6 – 0 just behind Rab for third place.
