Well 8 hardy souls turned out on the Chichester Canal for the 3rd Leg of the LEC Cup. We were expecting a cold one but we got heavy rain instead. We pegged the south side of the basin and had three pegs in the top end of the canal itself.

Vince was drawn on the last peg actually in the basin on the corner he started on the waggler and fished over an interesting combination of liquidised bread and pinkies. Starting on the bread punch Vince had a few fish but found that presentation was difficult and swapped over to maggots on the whip. The change was obviously the right one to make as Vince caught roach and a few skimmers consistently for the rest of the match for a total weight of 8 – 15 – 8.

Glen Riley was drawn on our first peg in the basin just by the pontoon and fished a waggler to midway for skimmers and roach with pinkie on the hook. A step up to double pinkie resulted in a bonus tench of around 3lb which boosted his weight to 7 – 6 – 0 for second place.

Mark (canal) Pantling was pegged in the canal proper and started on the pole down the middle and later reverted to a whip on a slightly shorter line. He had plenty of fish but nothing of any real size. Nevertheless his 4 – 12 – 0 was sufficient for 3rd place.

Mark’s 3rd place together with two 1st places puts him in a very strong position for the LEC Cup when we fish the final leg in a couple of weeks time.

Oh! And by the way if you were wondering what happened at Fittleworth a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately all 9 anglers that competed came back with a blank. Probably due to the amount of salt that had washed off the road into the river.
