Match Report
This second leg match was again fished upstream of Hunston bridge. Once again the Tench and Bream failed to show along this stretch and with no ripple on the water anglers were wondering if the smaller fish would have the confidence to feed.
Steve Jeffery drew on peg 5 near the large tree on the towpath where he fished the pole at eight metres over groundbait. This swim started very slowly and a switch to an inside line on a lilypad gave immediate results with a small skimmer coming to the net on the first put in. The inside line continued to produce small skimmers and roach steadily until a specimen eel of 2-4-8 made an unexpected but welcome appearance. Because of the disturbance the eel caused Steve switched back to the 8 metre line where he caught small skimmers steadily until the last half an hour of the match, this was more than enough for 1st place to make it two wins on the trot .
Second was a new angler to our match scene, Rick Williams. Rick drew peg 1 by the bench and caught small roach, on a short pole line, steadily for most of the match for a very good debut.
Third was last weeks runner up Vince Herringshaw drawn on peg 2 which was on the second platform on the stretch. Vince fished the pole at eight metres over groundbait and caught small roach and skimmers, but again his swim was very slow to start and died near to the end of the match.
It was nice to see some new anglers at the match and they have said that they will be back next week. It was particularly good to see a junior angler, Stewart Williams, fishing a match. This could well be a name to look out for in the future as he seemed very keen.
