This third and final round of the M.Sampson Cup was again fished upstream of Hunston Bridge back towards the city. As the fishing had been a little slow the previous two weeks it was decided to peg a little further upstream to see if the better fish were there.

Steve Jeffery drew peg 4 which was one peg after the fence that is in the canal on the far side. Steve opted for his usual approach of fishing the pole at 8 mteres over groundbait but also fishing a swim on the lily pad on the far side. The groundbait line was very slow throughout the match but did produce some small roach and skimmers. The far side lilypad swim produced two good eels of about a pound and a half and also a few small skimmers, this being enough for first place.

Second was Keith Hughes, who drew peg 3, next to Steve. Keith started on the pole down the track and immediately started to catch roach every put in for half an hour, but once again this swim became very slow. For the rest of the match Keith switched between the near side, far side and down the track, catching the odd small roach and skimmer. Keith did hook a nice bream about fifteen minutes form the end of the match, but unfortunately the fish rolled on the line and pulled the hook.

Third was Rab Butler, drawn on peg 2, who fished an inside lilypad for the whole match. Rab caught small roach, skimmers and his weight was boosted by two eels.

Steve Jeffery wins the M.Sampson Cup by returning a perfect score of 30 points over the three legs. In second place was Vince Herringshaw with 23.
