Match Report
This was the first leg of the evening series of match on the Rother for the Moss Cup and was fished on the North bank. It was a dry sunny evening on the hottest day of the year so far and as usual the match was a walk-off. The river was low and weedy in parts with a slow flow. However the fish were feeding with dace, roach, perch, gudgeon, eels and chublets being caught. Keith Hughes also hooked a carp which he unfortunately lost. It was good to see Ray Huskisson back fishing with us after his illness.
In first place was Steve Simmonds who had to cut a swim out opposite the marker board and caught a mixed bag weighing 5-2-8 trotting a stick float. This was Steve’s second win in a row following his belated start to the match season.
Mick Greenway was in second place and was fishing the swim where the river takes a sharp turn southwards in the second field. He also used a stick float to trot maggots and caught 33 fish including some good sized dace and roach along with odd gudgeon and perch. These weighed 4-1-12. Mick also caught a small jack pike about a foot long which he could not weigh in.
In third place was Richard LeDuc who was fishing the furthest downstream on the straight after the bends. He caught dace, roach and perch weighing 2-10-8 trotting a stick float.
