Match Report
This was the first of the evening river matches and again we started off on the Fittleworth stretch of the Rother. On a dry windless night 8 turned up and we fished the north bank although it was difficult to pull a trolley along as the grass was still long. The river looked in good condition with a good level and flow ideal for trotting a float. As usual in these evening river matches there was walk off with the order being decided by a draw. During the evening if you got bored or the fishing was slow you could watch the birds which included 4 herons in flight together
In first place was Steve Speller who caught 2 chub, weighing 4-13-4 on the feeder (hemp and casters) using caster on the hook.
Keith Hughes, who is having a very successful start to the season, was in second place and caught a mixed bag of roach, dace and perch weighing 1-6-8 trotting the float. He was two swims downstream from the bridge.
In third place was Ray Huskisson who caught 3 dace trotting and an eel on the feeder to weigh in 1-4-12.
It was a very close match apart from the chub caught by Steve with second and sixth place separated by 5 ounces.
