Turnout was low for the third and final round of the Moss Cup at Coultershaw but at least we managed to get all three rounds of our evening river series in this year. Last year if you remember we had to move every match because of high water and actually if this had been fished a day later we might have found the same as the river definitely rose during the match. Nobody ventured too far down and in fact Rab went upstream from the first stile to what used to be one of my favourite swims – where the side stream comes in.
Vince was first with a mixed bag of mainly dace, roach and gudgeon totaling 1 – 9 – 8 all caught on the stick float. Rab was second using the same tactics, if it had been numbers Rab would probably have won but he did have a load of minnows and you need quite a few of them to the ounce. It has started happening again for the man in third. Keith Hughes weighed in one perch of just under a pound but was left looking at a hole in his net through which his gudgeon had escaped – time to get the cable ties out or visit Tim or Les!
