Match Report
There was a good turnout of anglers for the Pairs match which was switched from Stemps and Cart to Bernies as our lakes had not been fishing well having had a few cormorant strikes. Bernies was chosen as it had fished reasonably well in the silverfish only match a couple of weeks previously in cold conditions. Again we had had rain in the previous week and this made the venue very muddy. Matchday was grey, cold but dry and this time the four corners were included in the pegs.
Pairs were drawn and then each angler drew his peg. In this match there were very few silverfish caught although the carp did feed – not only the smaller ones but several of the larger fish as the weights show. On the day there were six double figure weights which shows that Bernies is not only a summer venue.
In first place was Vince Herringshaw who was fishing on the car park side and was the first peg down from the corner. He fished bread punch on the long pole to catch 9 carp weighing 26-6-12.
Fishing on the first corner on the solar farm side was Jon Arnold who fished maggot on the long pole to catch 5 carp weighing 25-6-0 to take second place. Jon was also christening his new Octbox seat box and pole.
On the opposite corner on the car park side was Paul Ward who also used maggot on the long pole to catch 5 carp weighing 23-1-4.
