The new season’s opening competition on the Hurston Match Pond was the first in the Wednesday series of Pibworth cup matches. The night was dry but overcast but only 5 anglers turned up. It was decided to spread the anglers around the lake and pegs 1,3,7,10 and 13 were used. The Golden Peg was not won last season and it was decided to split the monies so the first winner would win £100 with the rest of the money going towards the next Golden Peg. Any money collected this season would add to this until that pot reached £100. Again in this match the Golden Peg was not won as Keith on Peg 13 finished third.
Vince Herringshaw was on peg 7 and was the only angler to find the bream as they seemed to have congregated at the far end of the lake. He used pellet on the long pole to catch 31-13-8 of bream to easily win the match.
In second place Mike Kitchener fishing Peg 1. He caught approximately 6lb of tench, crucians and rudd from the middle of lake on the long pole. These were supplemented by 3 carp caught in the margins to win 15-11-12.
Keith Hughes was on Peg 13 and used the pole to catch 3 tench plus 3 carp to total 15-4-0. he lost several carp in the weed that has now started to grow up in this water.
