The second leg of the Pibworth Cup was held on the Hurston Tench Lake on a dry overcast evening which meant that the weigh in at the slightly extended finish time was still carried under gloomy conditions, necessitating the use of a torch. Five anglers turned up and the pegs used were those considered by Kitch and Keith to have the best potential for catching tench.
The lake had been raked by Kitch on the previous evening and anglers were allowed to rake on the night. The fish caught were mainly small tench and crucians which indicate that the fish are breeding and offer hope of better catches in the future. None of the bigger tench were caught although several were hooked and lost.
In first place was Mike Kitchener (above) on peg 12 who caught 4 tench,4 crucians and rudd to weigh in 5 – 1 – 12. These were all caught on the pole using maggot as bait over a bed of pellets.
Keith Hughes was in second place on peg 7 and caught 3 tench, 5 crucians and rudd weighing 4 – 14 -0. These were also caught on the pole using the same bait/ groundbait combination as Kitch
A long way behind in third place was Vince Herringshaw who caught 2 tench and a rudd weighing 0 – 9 – 4, again using the same tactics as Kitch and Keith.
Overall the Pibworth Cup was won by Kitch with two first places (20 points) followed a long way back by Dave Herbert and Mick Greenway both with 14 points.
