We were at Stemps Pond for the first match of the new year a pole only event and we were hopeful that a good range of fish would be caught. Although dominated by the Carp pegs it was great to see some good weights of Roach and Skimmers from elsewhere.
Mick Greenway drew the favoured peg 15 which can be a bit of a lottery as the carp are normally very close to snags and dive into them at the first opportunity. However in the winter they are a bit more docile and Mick managed to get five out for the bulk of his 23lb for first place. Mick had most of his fish on bread
Steve Simmonds was on Peg 2 and decided to split his time between silver fish on the whip with pinkie and fishing to the island for the Carp with worm. His four Carp and a reasonable bag of Roach totaled 18lb 2oz for second place.
Keith Hughes drew Peg 14 and was just able to reach the island with his pole and managed three Carp and a few bits for 10 – 1 – 4 and third place.
