Again we had a good turnout of 10 anglers for the second leg of the Pole Only match. We had a period of rain during the match and this gave Steve Speller the opportunity to try out his new brollie and very effective it proved to be. Following the wettest period for years the walk across the field again was a major challenge, as it was very muddy. The weather was mild and there were high hopes of reasonable catches of carp and skimmers. Carp were caught from all of the recognised carp pegs and Keith Hughes had a good catch of skimmers from peg 13 although he had problems holding his pole at 13 metres due to the gusting wind.

In first place, fishing on peg 1 was John Williams who caught 5 carp plus a pound of silverfish weighing 14-15-0. John used chopped worm and caught the carp to the right of his swim.

Steve Hanson caught a carp on jelly pellet from the inside of peg 14. This coupled with approximately three pounds of silverfish gave him a second place weight of 7-14-4.

Very close behind in third place was Mike Kitchener who has now become a regular at the matches. Mike caught 2 carp plus bits weighing 7-13-2 on maggot. Mike hooked and lost other carp otherwise he would have been closer to John’s winning weight.

Overall the series was won by John Williams with 19 points from Steve Hanson with 17 points.
