Match Report

Just six of us turned up for the first river match of the season. We were missing a few of the regulars; among others Graham was on grandfather duty and Richard is having his hip replaced. We fished the south bank and the match was run as a walk off.

Duncan drew 1 and decided to ignore his favourite peg which is opposite the first gap in the trees on the north bank and he fished opposite the second stand of trees. Fishing the stick float after a few small fish he connected with and landed a Bream of around 3lb. encouraged by this he put a bit of groundbait in with the hope of more but only found the normal Roach, Dace and Gudgeon with a couple of Trout. His total weight minus the Trout which are not eligible was 6lb 5oz to easily take first place.

Steve with a low draw was happy to find the first big bend had not be taken. He fished maggot on the stick float over loose fed maggots and hemp with a bit of groundbait and caught a mixture of Roach, Dace and Gudgeon on and off through the match for 3lb 9oz and second place.

Ron, much to Duncan’s dismay (as he has to carry his gear for him) decided to go to the swim at the very end of the section. He lost a couple of good fish but did have some nice Dace with a few other fish for 1lb 14oz and third place.
