Match Report
Another very hot day and low river. We thought that Ron and Duncan had ducked out but they arrived just in time for the draw having had trouble with sheep on the farm which delayed them. We noticed that the estate had very recently removed the near bank tree between the cattle drink and fence, there was a fair amount of debris in the area but this could become an interesting new swim.
At the draw Alan Murphy has obviously got lucky fingers as he again drew one and decided on the bottom end of the cattle drink. Jon Arnold with two went half way down the first straight and Steve Penticost with three decided on the short walk and chose the top end of the cattle drink.
Steve’s choice paid off although he was beginning to wonder after an hour or so with just a few minnows and a couple of dace in the net and Alan seemed to be catching steadily below him. He then hooked what he thought was a snag until it started moving and brought the first of four Bream to his net. These made up the bulk of his 13lb 8oz 4dm to easily take first place.
From the draw Duncan went to his favoured Mill Pool peg, he had fished it earlier in the season and although he reckons it changes every time he goes there it has normally produced for him. He had a good sized Bream and a mix of smaller fish for a total of 7lb 15oz 8dm to secure second place.
Steve Simmonds drew the final number and decided to go to the Stumps peg. He had a good net of mainly Dace with a couple of Perch and some big Gudgeon for 6lb 15oz and third place.
Alan was just out of the frame but probably had the fish of the day, a lovely Perch of around 1lb.
The final standing after the River Series
