Match Report
This was the first of the evening matches and was held on the Tench Lake at Hurston Pond. This pond suffers from Canadian pondweed and the regular Wednesday work party members, who fished the match, had spent the previous Monday clearing weed from all the swims on the river side of the pond. Catches consisted of tench, Crucian Carp and Rudd although the anglers were not pestered by Rudd as they normally are on this lake. The evening was overcast and the anglers were able to set up in the dry before there was an hour spell of rain – fortunately the weigh in was undertaken in the dry.
The match turned out to be very close. In first place was Mick Greenway fishing on peg 6 and caught mainly Crucians, including one of 1.5 pounds along with a couple of Tench to weigh in 5lb 2oz . He used worm or dead maggots fished on the pole.
Second place was taken by Graham White, on Peg 5, who weighed in a mixed bag of Crucian Carp, Tench ( including one of 2 pounds ) and Rudd weighing 4lb 15oz. He also fished the pole using worm and maggots.
Gary Collins was in third place on peg 4 fishing on the newly built platform. He caught consistently throughout the match catching small Tench and Rudd, on maggot, to weigh in 4lb 9oz. Again he used the pole.
