Match Report
NOTE: Graham and Mick were equal second with the same weight.
This was the fifth and final Stillwater evening match and was held on Cart on yet another warm pleasant evening although it did start to get colder in the latter parts of the match. The Walberton bailiffs had down a grand job in removing the surface weed that had bedevilled the lake this year. However this particular weed has strong roots and stems and in some areas these are still a problem. The anglers were pegged at the far end of the lake and there were still several larger carp moving around the island at that end. The anglers decided to make it a silverfish only match and any carp caught to be moved immediately back to Stemps. In the end none of these carp were caught, as they had moved off to swim around at other end of the island. Surprisingly none of the small F1 type carp were caught but the anglers were pestered by this year’s roach fry which took a maggot as soon as it entered the water. (This is good sign for the future as there were lots of fry showing). Graham only needed to catch a fish to win the series and he did this in the first 10 seconds.
Gary Collins won the match and caught 1-9 of roach and rudd. He used maggot fished on the pole and did not suffer with the small fry and ended up catching some slightly bigger and even nettable roach and rudd.
Graham White and Mick Greenway tied for second place with 0-9. Both anglers fished the pole and catches were mainly roach and rudd of variable sizes although Mick’s catch included two very small tench caught on worm.
Graham won the Stillwater evening series ( 46points) from Gary with 43 points.
